The Bihar Board Class 12 results were declared on May 30 and out of 12,40,168 students who appeared in the board exams, 7,94,622 students failed the examination. This year, yet again, the topper of the intermediate exam is in the grip of controversy that has lead the Board to remove his name from the list of toppers.
Has two children
Ganesh Kumar who topped from the Arts stream has been arrested for hiding his age. BSEB chairman Anand Kishor said that he fudged his age and changed his name to reappear for the matriculation (class 10) and class 12 exams. He had claimed that he was 24, but his actual age turned out to be 42. He is also a father of two children and his real name is Ganesh Ram.
An FIR with Kotwali police station has been lodged against him and the certificates of both the exams he appeared for has been cancelled.Mr Kumar was asked few questions by the media on music in which he had scored 65 out of 70 in practicals.
Kumar in an interview to a TV news channel said singer Lata Mangeshkar is known as ‘Maithili Kokila’, a title bestowed on folk singer Sharda Sinha, who is from Samastipur, where his school is situated.
Did not know basics of music
He had a difficult time explaining what is ‘sur’, ‘taal’ and ‘matra’, considered the basics of music. Asked what did he do in music practicals, he unrhythmically sang a few lines of a Bollywood number.
As per TOI report, “He cheated the board by manipulating his age. So his name has been removed from the toppers’ list. However, there is no problem with his performance in the board exam. An FIR has been lodged against him and the schools from which he appeared for the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations in 2015 and 2017, respectively,” said Kishor.

Last year, Rubi Rai, the class 12 humanities topper, who was accused of cheating in board exam, was arrested by Police today as she failed to answer questions in a re-exam conducted by an expert committee of the Bihar School Examination Board.
She had scored 444 out of 500 marks in the Class 12 exam with arts stream, however, while replying to a question of Aaj Tak, the topper said, ‘Political Science is all about cooking’, and pronounced ‘Political Science’ as ‘Prodigal Science’.
Kishor said after several media reports about the Arts topper scam, the board probed into the family background and life of Ganesh. “The board was shocked to know that Ganesh’s real age is 41 and he is the father of two kids. He concealed his age. He had done his matriculation from CRSR High School, Suriya in Giridih district of Jharkhand in 1990 with his real name Ganesh Ram (date of birth November 7, 1975),” said Kishor. At that time Jharkhand was not created and it was part of Bihar
